What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)?

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing specially prepared sperm directly into the uterus using a special catheter, during the female partner’s ovulation period. This procedure increases the chances of sperm reaching the egg, making it an effective option for couples with difficulties having intercourse or mild to moderately reduced sperm count.

Who Can Benefit from IUI?

IUI may be the right choice for couples if:
  • right arrow

The male partner has mild male factor infertility (low sperm count or reduced sperm motility).

  • right arrow

The female partner is experiencing ovulation disorders (e.g., PCOS) and is undergoing ovulation induction.

  • right arrow

They are having problems with intercourse.

THE IUI Process at Al Moosa IVF

Here’s what you can expect during your IUI journey:

1

Fertility Consultation

Our fertility specialists will conduct a thorough evaluation of your medical history, perform diagnostic tests (e.g. semen analysis and Hycosy scan), and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.

2

Ovulation Monitoring

We will monitor your menstrual cycle using ultrasound scans and blood tests to determine the optimal time for ovulation.

3

Sperm Preparation

On the day of the procedure, a sperm sample will be collected and processed in our lab.

4

IUI Procedure

The prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus using a thin catheter under ultrasound guidance. The procedure is quick, involves minimal discomfort and usually takes only a few minutes.

5

Follow-Up and Support

After the procedure, our team will provide guidance and support. A pregnancy test is usually scheduled about two weeks later to confirm success.

Every question deserves care. Find clarity as you take the
next step.

The IUI procedure is well tolerated with minimal discomfort, quiet similar to a Pap smear.

The entire process, from consultation to the procedure, usually takes one menstrual cycle. However, the actual IUI procedure takes 5 to 10 minutes.

Success rates vary depending on factors like age, underlying fertility issues, and overall health.

The number of recommended cycles varies, but many couples try 3-6 IUI cycles before exploring other options like IVF. Our specialists will guide you based on your situation.
