What is Endometrial Scratch?

Endometrial Scratch is a minor procedure where a small scratch or gentle abrasion is made on the lining of the uterus (endometrium). This is done to trigger the body’s natural healing response, creating a more receptive environment for embryo implantation.

What is Endometrial Scratch?

The procedure works by:
  • right arrow

Stimulating the Endometrium: The scratch triggers the release of growth factors and immune cells, which promote a healthier uterine lining.

  • right arrow

Improving Implantation: A more receptive endometrium increases the likelihood of an embryo successfully attaching to the uterine wall.

  • right arrow

Enhancing Blood Flow: The healing process improves blood flow to the uterus, further supporting implantation.

1

Consultation

Our fertility specialists will assess your medical history and determine if Endometrial Scratch is suitable for you.

2

Procedure

The scratch is performed in our clinic using a thin, flexible catheter guided by ultrasound. The process takes only a few minutes and is typically done without anaesthesia. You may be asked to take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen 30-60 mins before the procedure.

3

Recovery

Most women experience mild cramping or spotting, but recovery is quick, and you can resume normal activities immediately.

4

Fertility Treatment

The procedure is usually performed in the cycle before your IVF, FET, or IUI treatment to prepare the endometrium for implantation.

Every question deserves care. Find clarity as you take the
next step.

Most women experience only mild discomfort, similar to menstrual cramps, during the procedure. You may be asked to take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen 30-60 minutes before the procedure.

The procedure is quick and typically takes less than 5-10 minutes.

The procedure is very safe, with minimal risks such as mild cramping, spotting, or infection (rare).

It is usually performed in the cycle before your fertility treatment, typically around day 21 of your menstrual cycle.

While it improves the chances of implantation, success depends on factors such as embryo quality, uterine health, and overall fertility.
